Lumen Notes
Small notes on light, film and slow travel.
Why I still meter by hand
A handheld meter makes you stop and look at where the light is actually coming from. Half the photograph is decided in that pause.
Three quiet mornings in Porto
Fog off the Douro until ten, then a low sun that turns every tiled facade into a reflector. Best light of the trip, and no one else awake to see it.
On keeping a contact-sheet diary
One frame a day, printed small, pasted into a notebook. After a year it reads better than any journal I have written.
